Religion, Why?

There's a general conversation rule that most modern day cultures share. When at the table, avoid discussing politics, and religion. The obvious reasons for this underlying conversation taboo, is that it's not polite to express your views in a neutral situation or gathering. But the real questions is, why these subjects still bring the average person to a point of self defense, and even rage? Weather we are aware of it or not, our religious believes have been so deeply imbedded into us, that we feel the need to promote them, and even defend them at times.

            This month in SIM, we look at this thing called religion, we ask why. Why have humans since the dawn of their time, given reverence and praise to an unseen creator through religious acts? Whether organized or not, religion has unceasingly fueled the thoughts and actions of humans with tremendous force. Why have entire nations have been conquered, as well as raised to power through the tools of religion? Why does religion matter in the human story, and how does it play a role in spiritual development?

            An immense diversity of religious beliefs, philosophies, histories, practices, and customs around the world, continue to serve the spiritual needs of every conscious mind in the expression of their inner faith. In truth, there is not a single aspect of humanity that is not somehow affected by religion. Fascinating and rich histories of religious beliefs and traditions have evolved in parallel with the human consciousness, bringing us to our present day awareness.

            As a spiritually based magazine, we will not be promoting, or discrediting the presence of religion. Rather, examine it's role throughout history, and focusing on how it has shaped the greater spiritual awareness of its practitioners. As you can image, our authors are excited to cover the topic of religion, as it can be an important stepping-stone into self-discovery and spiritual awakening.
