Out of Body Experience and Instruction

Jack Seccombe brings us his advanced understandings each month, discussing the out of body experience, the near death experience, and much more! As a spiritual community founded on out of body travel, we, The Light Body Travelers, through Spiritual International Magazine, are proud to feature a master and teacher of out of body experiences. Jack Seccombe teaches and guides our members to achieve the out of body experience through personal interactions right here in our magazine. Don’t leave this page without asking him your own unique question, and he is sure to surprise you with his wisdom.

OBE Basics, Let's Get Started

JackBannerJuneFirst off I wanted to point out, at least in general terms, how my column is going to be laid out.

This entire column is going to tell you how to prepare yourself mentally and physically to have an obe. From the next month’s column on, about half the column will be about out of body methods, things that deal with obe such as fear, the vibrational state and what to expect on the other side, etc. The other half will be my personal out of body experiences, etc.

With that said, I will occasionally write about or include writings that may deal with Near Death Experiences (NDE’S), Past Lives and possibly Aura’s. Another point I want to speak of is that as each column is written, it is a good idea that you copy it and keep it for your reference. In each column will be a wealth of information dealing with obe. As you try your out of body attempts, you may find you will have questions. Many of these questions may be covered in depth in previous columns. So please keep that in mind.

I sincerely believe that the act of out of body is a natural body function, that over the centuries, even millenniums, it has been near forgotten. Out of body has been swept under the carpet by most people as well as most religions. Please keep in mind though that some religions still do practice out of body. In general terms, out of body has been neglected to the point that people in general may not believe it can be done, or even if it exists at all. I stand with a smile that out of body seems to be having a comeback.

I will not preach how obe relates to God, religion, your daily life, how it could make you a better person, etc. But what I will write is simply how to get out, and what to possibly expect when you are out. Whether or not you should do out of body, how it shall relate to your church, your God, your family, your friends, your salvation etc. is up to you to decide. I recommend highly that before attempting to have an obe, you cover all your worries, personal fears, religious and otherwise. When your mind is clear, and your questions have been noted and dealt with, and you are comfortable with having an obe, that is the time you should start your out of body training, not until.

Know that my methods are relatively simple ones. I am a man of basics. I am one of grass roots teachings. Many, if not most of the methods, which will be covered here, are standard ones, written by many different authors in many different books. I have collected many that seem to work best for family, my friends, students and me, and will also include many of my own methods. Basic heart rhythm, breathing and muscle relaxation methods will be taught here. They are simple, to the point, and have been used for centuries by those who practice the art of meditation.

I will write in layman’s terms. I will write with simplicity that you all should be able to understand what I am saying and understand it fully. Please note that when I am on a topic of importance I may repeat it. What is important to know needs to be remembered in full and in complete form.

A minor note: For abbreviation purposes, I use obe as the abbreviation for “out of body experience”.

In general, to me anyway, fear is the main problem that plagues those new to out of body. Besides the fears above mentioned, there are fears of being killed when having an obe. There are also fears of something or someone taking control of your physical body when you are out. Also fears that demons and Satan will get you are one of high mention. Another fear is that you won’t be able to get back into your physical body once you leave it because another spirit might have taken it over.

Can anyone or I truly guarantee any of these things will not happen to you? Not really. Some teachers will simply say no. True, I believe that none of these things will happen to you, but in all honesty, I don’t know.

After almost 20 years of getting out I always got back into my body. Everyone I know who has gotten out has come back, including my wife, sons, close friends, students, etc.

jack 22Being possessed by another person? I have not been possessed. I know I have not been killed. My friends and family have not been killed when doing out of body either.

I have never seen demons on the other side, only people who are mean spirited. Satan? As far as I know, I have not seen him either. Now in all fairness, many out of body teachers do speak of demons, Satan, etc., but for me, no.

So with all that said, after 20 years of obe, I have never seen these things happen. In my opinion, there is a better than good chance these things can’t happen or won’t happen. But who knows? I could be wrong. It is your choice to decide.

In conclusion to the topic of fear, if you are afraid or scared to the point that it is affecting you, then attempting an obe may not be for you. You can be the only one to make that decision. But I would suggest, if any serious fear plagues you, then do not attempt an obe till you have dealt with your fears and put them to rest.

There are as many different out of body teachers, all with their own methods and experiences. They all teach differently. They argue with one another about a bucket of things dealing with obe. How to get out, what you will see on the other side, what you should do there, what to stay away from.

Case in point, what you have to do to get out is probably the most heated dispute of any. Some say your head has to face the north, some say you should attempt to have an obe on your sofa, not your bed. Some say your bed is OK. Some say you need to eat certain foods. Some say you should not eat at all before an out of body attempt. Some say your room should be warmer than normal. Some say you should do your attempt while looking into a mirror. Some say you should listen to mystic music or jungle sounds. Some tell us that we should chant or ask our guides to pull us out. And even some tell us we should have a full nights sleep, being fully rested and then try an out of body attempt. Others say we should attempt an obe when sleepy. Some say to have an out of body room. Others say you should try your out of body attempt in a recliner chair. The list goes on from here.

After reading this, what teacher will you follow? What method is correct? What method won’t work for you and which one will? Remember if you line up 10 different out of body teachers and ask them how to get out, chances are you will get ten different answers. I am going to give you many out of body techniques, all different from one another. As you read them, you can search your own mind and pick out the one that seems to attract your interest, the one you think could be more successful than the others.

Now if, after a certain time, you have had little or no results, you can pick the runner up and try that one. Like I say, there is a butt for every seat, a house for every buyer, and an out of body technique for everyone. You will actually pick out and design your own out of body method. Always remember, what works for me may not work for you.

jack 11I have taught many to get out on a face to face basis. This is my favorite way. Since this is not possible here, I have decided to still follow the same basic theme. As I write these columns I am going to imagine I am speaking face to face with one person only. I am going to write in a sincere, personal way, not as I normally would when writing in a book, magazine, or newsletter. It’s just you and me, sitting at a table, across from one another. I hope you will do the same as you read my columns.

Lastly, always remember that I am only one man with one man’s learning’s and experiences. Some out of body teachers will agree with what I write, some may not. I do not write this column for any gain, no book promotions, no fame or fortune. I ask you not to buy a book or a newsletter, nor to have me on your radio or TV show, or attend a workshop. Simply put, my entire goal in spending the hours of writing here is solely that I might help you get out of body and set you free.

Let us begin. Out of body is simply getting your physical body to fall asleep while your mind stays awake. That is basically all there is to it. You see when your physical body gets relaxed enough, tired enough, it will fall asleep even if your mind is still awake. Many might think this is not possible, but it very much is. As you practice and progress, your body will become more and more at ease about falling asleep while your mind remains awake and active. Then your out of body attempts become easier.

The second point to this is that the real you, your spirit, is locked away tightly inside your body. When being out of body, your spirit actually leaves your physical body behind. Your body will only release your spirit when you fall asleep. To get out, first you have to learn methods of physical relaxation, which includes muscle tension exercises and breathing and heart rhythm reduction techniques. As you become successful in this, you can learn to keep your mind active and motivated as well. In short, combining these two successfully should give you your obe. This is what I am going to teach you.

Most any out of body technique, no matter which one it is, basically does this, body asleep, mind awake. As you read technique after technique, no matter how different they may seem, boiling it down, this is what they are doing.

Basic rules need to be remembered. Be 100% committed and follow through. Usually, having an obe is very hard to accomplish, at least when you are learning. If you are not able or willing to try your out of body method each and everyday, without fail, at the same basic time for at least 3 weeks, I recommend you not attempt it, at least not till you can. Simply put, you are wasting your time. Few people are naturals, including me.

There are two parts to most any method. The first, being to relax your body to the correct point, and the second is to accomplish a mind technique that will remove your spirit from your physical body. Due to the length of this column I shall cover the first part now and cover the mind techniques in my next column.

Whether or not you do your out of body attempts in the night time or the daytime, matters not, but whichever you choose, you must do it at that same time and place, each day. Also remember to give the technique at least three weeks before changing to another. In all honesty, the majority of those I have personally taught had some type of obe in less than a week, and many within three days.

Next you must decide what area makes you most comfortable and relaxed. The place you shall choose should be quiet and at comfortable temperature. (I like a warm room, but not too warm. Heat relaxes you while coolness tightens your muscles) I suggest a place that can be made dark or at least not bright enough to disturb your relaxation.

Many out of body instructors say never try to have an obe in your bed. They say your mind will drift off to sleep too fast. They suggest you should try a sofa or another bed in another room, or even a comfortable recliner chair. In my opinion you need to pick the most comfortable room, bed, chair, sofa, etc. that you have. After all, I am most successful in my out of body attempts in my regular bed. You make the call. No one knows you better than you.

With me, I do not do well with eating within an hour or two before trying an out of body attempt. Again, you make your own call. Also I do not drink anything within an hour of trying an out of body technique because of bathroom duties that tend to come up during an attempt. One more thing I don’t do is drink caffeine within hours of my attempt. Again, the reasons for these things is simple, you need to get your body to sleep. If something might bother you in this way, don’t do it. Just be as comfortable in your environment and in your body as you can. You make the call once again.

Have an hour or so open to do your attempt. Don’t be in a hurry, your mind will sense this. Relax, get comfortable and learn to enjoy this special relaxation time. Look forward to it.

Through out your day, think about your upcoming out of body attempt. Get excited that you are trying it soon. Read an obe book for a while if possible. If you have someone you can talk with about obe”s, do it. In plain language, get your mind focused on out of body; this does help me, a lot.

Wear extremely comfortable clothes. Sweat pants are good for me with a light, soft shirt. Take off any hard jewelry, belts, etc. Kick off your shoes. Turn off or unplug your phones.

jack 44Now lay down (Lets say you are using a sofa or bed) preferably on your back. If you have trouble sleeping on your back, try your side. I get out in all positions. Put your hands by your sides, palms down. Do a couple of good, hard, long stretches, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Hold the stretches for a few seconds before releasing them. As you release, feel the tension in your muscles and the thoughts in you mind melt away.

After a few stretches, lay still for a few moments. Feel the relaxation. Now clear your mind of all thoughts. No work thoughts, no what’s for dinner thoughts, nothing. Keep your mind clear, totally. When a thought pops in your mind, immediately throw it out. It is tuff to do, but with practice it gets easier. Keep your mind clear.

Next mentally slow your heart rate down. This is not all that hard to do. Imagine your heartbeat starting to slow down. Really get into it. In a few minutes you should feel your heart beat slow, at least a little. As you move onto the next step, continue to slow your heart rate. Do not move your body, not even a little. This breaks all you have started and you will have to start all over again. No scratching, or itching either. Usually if you ignore them, in a minute or so they will go away. This is a little hard and tricky. I do struggle with this myself.

After your heart rhythm has slowed, start slowing down your breathing. This is done in the same way as slowing down your heartbeat. Inhale slow as you can without making yourself grasp for breath. With each inhale; continue to slow your breathing pattern down slower and slower. Remember to slow down your exhales as well. This may take five minutes. Don’t rush this. Enjoy this time of relaxation and comfort.

After your mind has been cleared successfully, and your heart beat and breathing has been reduced to the point that you can not seem to get it any slower, move on to the next stage, muscle relaxation. Muscle relaxation is relatively easy, but time consuming. Each muscle group needs to be personally relaxed, by itself, one at a time. This is very important. Start by curling both sets of your toes tightly. Now hold them as tight as you can for about five seconds, and then release them slowly. As you release them, imagine how loose and relaxed this has made them feel. Imagine all the tension has been squeezed out of them. Think how wonderful and totally relaxed they feel. Imagine they are so relaxed you don’t even feel them. Do two sets of toe curls. When your toes are done, keep them completely still. Imagine you don’t feel them any longer, and then move on.

Next do the same technique with your ankles, then your calves, etc. Continue to move up your body, part by part, in order till you have even done your face muscles. Remember when doing your face muscles, start with your mouth and lower jaw, then move up to your nose, then your eyelids, etc. Your muscle relaxation should take you from twenty to thirty minutes.

Jack 3When you are done with your muscle relaxation, mentally give your entire body a mental scan. Mentally go over each muscle group you have done. Search for any tight muscles that could still be lingering. If you find any, tighten it again. The object to all this is to have your body so relaxed that you come to the point that you don’t feel it.

Now check your heart rhythm, make sure it is as slow as possible. Now check your breathing again. Also remember while doing this, keep your mind clear, think only about how wonderful you feel. How relaxed and comfortable you are. You have never been so relaxed, not ever. When you have come to this point, you are ready to proceed to the next and last step, the mental techniques.

I will have to cover the mental techniques in next month’s column due to the length of this article. If you are interested in trying to have an obe I suggest you practice what you have read here throughout the next few weeks. Practice getting your body and mind to the proper state, one of total relaxation. The more you practice, the easier it will become and the faster your body will get relaxed.

To me, out of body is one of the greatest treasures I have ever known, and it can be for you also. But it does take time, practice, and most of all, commitment and following through. Don’t waste your time with half hearted attempts. With most all successful ober’s, the time and effort has been done.

I wish you all success in this first stage of learning how to get out of body. Something as wonderful and life changing is worth the effort to make it come forth. Good luck.

-Jack Seccombe

Hi Adriana, it is so nice to talk with you again. I hope you and yours are doing well.
In regards to your first question, actually I don’t have any other method to slow your heart rate down other than what I have posted. Please keep in mind that many books are out there that deal with this type of thing. Possibly Yogi, general meditation books and articles as well as mind over matter books, etc. Personally I have had little problem with doing this, but unfortunately so many others have. But with that said I have a few possible things that may help you.
Please keep in mind that when you eat or drink foods or drinks that have caffeine, artificial colorings and even preservatives in them, they can keep you heart activated, so much so that even though you try and slow down your heart rate, you could have trouble doing this.
Also food preservatives such as MSG and the like will do this as well. Alcohol, prescription drugs, even Nyquil can hurt your attempts to slow your heart rate.
Your next point you presented is that when you are close to lifting out of your body, your heart rate increases dramatically, so much so that it might stop you from getting out of body. This is extremely common. I have dealt with this constantly in my younger days. You see, as you try so hard to get out, when you finally feel yourself starting to lift out, you will naturally get excited. In doing this, your heart rate will naturally increase and many times your heart will also start to pound hard. Remember this is a totally natural and an expected thing to experience.
What I can say to this is that you have to try to stay as calm as possible. Try to remember that this is what all your hard earned effort is all about. You will be nervous and apprehensive when this big moment arrives, and when it does you may become so nervous, excited, etc. that you will not succeed. As you become nervous or scared there is a natural instinct for your mind to protect you and hold you back from your fears. But remember, as you have more and more near out of bodies, you will become less nervous and excited. As you do you will become more likely to succeed in finally having your obe.
When you are a seasoned obe’r you usually will never feel the worry, excitement and nervousness that you will experience in your beginning attempts.
Please stay with it and please don’t give up. Remember that if you are feeling the “Lift off” you are so very close to getting out. Please don’t give up, you are at the doorstep to what you want to achieve.
Thank you for your nice words and comments. Good luck and keep trying! Jack.

I had never encountered "the Devil" either...I think it has to do with one's belief's...I am a healer so I have seen bad things, but nothing that I couldn't take care of myself. My spirit guide had trained me in the supernatural so I found out what Fear really was, I have NO Fear now.
& I am in full contact with the spirits, I was also trained in the LAW'S OF NATURE( KARMA)

Thank you Joe for the nice words. I hope to help people to get out of body and experience more than I have. As I do what I try, you do as well with your group, etc. My hope is that all of us who have done out of body can unite together to help those who are trying to get out also and achieve even more than us. Out of body is a hard nut to crack and anything we can do to help them get on their way is truly a blessing to them as well as us. I sincerely hope SIMS will be a leader in this cause. Thank you for your service. Jack.

Hi Emil, thank you for your post. You have quite the obe history. You are gifted and it is great that you help others through your obe's. Also to be trained by your spirit guide is outstanding in the least. I have had a wonderful guide for many years and through her teachings and help, I have come miles in my learning's about obe as well as the world of the other side. Without her I might have eventually fallen away from obe. Please learn as much as you can from your guide.
Overcoming fear is one of the best things one can do to go further and deeper into obe as well as become faster and easier on getting out.
You seem to be well taught and have a great future with going deeper and deeper. Good luck to you and thanks again for your comment. Jack.
