Yes, it may seem a bit left field as a spiritual topic, and as our Editor William mentioned in the opening column of this month, money does seem to be the root of materialism, or at very least, the fuel that drives the vehicle of material necessity. However, as long as we exist within societies that subscribe to the reality of food coming from grocery stores, water coming from the faucet, entertainment coming from electronics, and shelter requiring four solid walls, a sturdy roof, and electricity, we have chosen too subscribed to a necessity for money.
As we take a closer look at money this month, I want to personally take you through a mini course on how to not only make money, but how to do it in a way that is spiritualty sound, and remains in sync with your true desires and passions.
So lets get right into it. How do we make money? How do we gain financial security? Without sounding sarcastic, I give you first, the simply answer, which is, work! Yes, if we take a position under another, and perform the duties required to win our wage at the end of the day, we will be making some form of currency. However, lets take a superior look at what work should do for us. Work, in many cases, is not always as gratifying as it should be, and granted, not everyone on earth is in a position to pick and choose what they do by day to provide for themselves and those in their lives. But work, or the task we do by day to earn currency, should be at least, at some level, spiritually gratifying, and in some way an extension of our own passions. This is not my philosophy alone; it is in fact an age-old understanding that maintains our mental, physical, and spiritual health, while remaining productive within our societies.
So lets get into a bit of the details on how to go about doing this, and really make it work to produce financial security, while at the same time, engaging in our own passions. I must inject here that I am speaking on a quite personal level, having myself within the last two years achieved this result, step by step, being lead all the way, by what I know undoubtedly today, as my higher self. Katy Simmone wrote beautifully on how to connect with the higher self earlier this month, and I encourage you to look at her “Manifesting Abundance With Our Spiritual Gifts” column as well.
No matter what you currently do by day for a job, if you are not 100% satisfied, and feel it does not serve your passions in life, I invite you to do the following. Ask yourself within your meditations, ‘what is my true passion’? To better clarify this, I ask you, the reader; in what activities are you so fully engaged, that it seems time hardly exists? What are you doing when you are lost in the moment, and almost nothing else matters aside from the focus on this task? What makes you feel complete, and completely inspired to no end?
To serve as an example, I re-inject my own testimonial, and share my answer to these questions to assist. For me, the answer is both art, and music. Having previously been a career musician for nearly fifteen years, I began to feel a shifting of gears in my own mind that re opened my artistic passions. It began to take shape and demand action, as my higher self knew much better than me what needed to be done, not only to fulfill my current purpose, but to begin generating money through pure passion.
This didn’t mean I gave up on my other business endeavors, but it did mean that I began to pay more attention to what needed to be achieved with this new calling, in spite of what others thought and said. Let’s face it; art is not exactly a hot career these days. However, this need to express myself artistically could not be ignored, and today, just a year later, I am able to manifest in a single sale of my art, a bit more than my previous weekly salary at my day job back in the United States. I have no title under another doing this, and am completely fulfilled spiritually, and find myself as never before, as I am lost in the timeless hours of creating my pieces. This is how the higher self can really make miracles when we truly listen and identify our calling. And remember, this calling can change many times within one lifetime. Do not be afraid to follow the tides of your ever-shifting passions.
So getting back to you, the reader seeking a real method to live out your passions, and to make money doing it, I ask you once more, what is the root of your desires? Identify it clearly, or better yet, allow it to gently come to you by asking yourself the question each day. Take long walks away from the noise and the opinions of others. Sit in silence reviewing your life thus far. Relive the best moments of your life and remember what it was you were doing in them. Go on long bike rides and let your mind wander as far as it likes. Go jogging on a nature trail, and let your thoughts go free to connect with your higher self without the restrictions and expectations you have come to accept in defining yourself and your career. Take the time to literally get lost in yourself; realizing this is the only way to authentically find you again. This is not a selfish thing to do, in spite of what we are taught. Many remain enslaved, due to never taking the time to let their minds explore freely. Many remain sadly limited, as they have never once engaged in the necessary soul searching that is their birthright to investigate.
When your true passion is known, and authentically felt in the depths of your being, it cannot fail to manifest into a successful business endeavor or job. Once you have identified what your absolute passion is, take some time to let it flourish in your mind. Be cautious of sharing it with others, as it can so easily be tainted, altered, and spoiled, even by those closest to us. (Through no fault of their own)
Take weeks, even months, to let it develop only within your mind if need be. Let it flourish as it needs to, and transform either into a personal business endeavor, or the job that you need to get to fulfill this newly defined passion. Then begin to form the thought processes, and ask yourself, how can this become a business? Or what job should I take to fulfill this passion? How can I take small, safe steps to make this passion a lucrative part of my life? Put on your business hat, but don’t pull it down too tightly. Allow plenty of space for this new flower to fully blossom. And never cease to nourish it with plenty of creativity. Continue to listen to, and be guided by your higher self.
Perhaps this new passion wont be paying all of your bills for a few years, but when you know what you are doing is an actual extension of your divinity, the energetic power of its workings will flourish. This is not a figure of speech or an exaggeration in the least! There is a very real energy that culminates around authentic desires, and should you choose to follow your own whole-heartedly, you will not fail.
Again, I realize that each of us exists in distinct situations. I, for example, may possess a bit more freedom to take risks than others my age, due to not yet having children. However, the underlying principle of extending your divine self into your passion to produce money will never be altered, regardless of the situation.
I encourage you to share your passions here in the comments section if you feel inspired.
Blessings and abundance,
-Dr. Joseph Kenneth
