I'm studying herbalism through a school that teaches Chinese, ayurveda and western herbalism. I wonder if any of you know any taoist practices that users herbs to support the quest for the holy grail? In chinese medicine there's the concept of shen, which is the mind. They say it's located in the heart. There are certain shen tonics you can take to nourish and strengthen your shen and I'm curious if there are any formulas that are specific for this type of work. I know that energy and meditation work strengthens shen, so I would love to use herbs that also supports the process. I'm not thinking about the typical dream herbs, but other herbs that will have a more lasting effect.
