Understanding Money

Mat banner april2Ahhh money, what an epic conundrum.

On one side of the proverbial coin we have the qualities that align with our ego, and on the other, we have qualities that align with our purer nature.

The conventions of which the monetary system operates can cause a tendency to look at it as somewhat evil; we’ve all heard the saying ‘more money more problems’.

The question posed here would be - Is the invention of money itself a bad thing? Or is it the conditions within which it operates?

We know quite well that money serves as a blockade to the things we need, rather than a means of access to them. The resources we pay for come from the Earth, which possesses an abundance of these materials.

mat 1The principles of the monetary system only serve to dictate who can, and who cannot, have access to these resources. Considering around 1% of the world owns the majority of the worlds material wealth, the process in which resources are divided would seem quite contradictory to a method that is fair and just.

Obviously we don’t pay Mother Earth money for the nutrients we take to sustain our societies and ways of life, neither do wemat 5 efficiently reciprocate the transaction by sustainably contributing more resources back into the planet for future harvests.

If anything, it could be said that we do the opposite of this as is evidenced by our ‘economic' decline.

If we were to view this situation from a non-terrestrial perspective; someone from beyond our world, it would seem that given the definition of ‘economical’ and the lack of intelligent management of socioeconomic systems, our approach toward such concepts is quite ironic.

In light of these factors of our human situation, we need no room for hazarding guesses as to why so many people are reverting back to their roots and becoming more self sustainable in their own lives and in communal situations such as going off grid in sustainable communities.

As an avid supporter of the concepts of Resource based economies, the logic in the above initiative definitely gets a thumbs up from me, though need we really discard our technological progress thus far?

In many ways, our authors in last months issue covering the relationship between science and technology touched this on.

To periodically rephrase the previously mentioned “more money more problems”, we could examine this a little deeper and look at it from a sense of ‘more materialism more problems’. The start of tackling any core issue starts first with introspection and creating change within. The start of tackling this core issue begins with dissolving the disrespectful aspects of our consumerist lifestyle, which we too often take for granted, and replacing them with a more considerate and holistic approach.

Merging financial wealth with a “be the change you want to see” outlook, we notice that money combined with a purer intention can provide us with positive results and a beneficial path of growth forward. This initiative serves to give us daily methods of striving to make better choices and changes within our lives.

When recalculating the importance we place on money, and creating these changes from within; by first refining the nature of how we operate at the individual level within the current consumer based monetary system, we enable ourselves to remove the need for currency and servitude as character building structures through recognizing that money itself is not the incentive, but the resources and standards of living it enables us to attain.

In this recognition, we take definitive measures to eradicating substantial causes of competition; greed, waste and so on, through realizing a clearer boundary between need and want.

Through these newly found realizations, we develop a deeper respect and mutual appreciation between people and planet, and with this we can create a more intelligent method to manage the world’s wealth and resources.

This would be a kind of underlying structure similar to what we have now with the concept of currency, only this method would serve to remove hierarchy, and replace it with a basis that recognizes a more equal distribution of resources and an improved standard of living as a commonality between all people, to be a primary contributor toward global growth.

mat 3In a seemingly backwards way, money serves as the perfect example to illustrate the value and physically applicable qualities of our focus and intention.

As our money is no longer backed by it’s weight in gold, and its worth is warranted under the circumstance of it being ‘legal tender’, the only thing that gives it any value is how much of it is in circulation. Through a conscious decision or otherwise, how much significance we allow it to have is what quantifies its ability.

This illustrates quite clearly how we vote with our money.

In saying this, if you told enemies they could transcend differences and unite, just through recognizing their commonalities, and the desire to do so, all manner of conflicting conditions would likely arise as a resistance to prevent such unification.

In a way, we can almost view this as being protected from, and being guided beyond our own ignorance, in a manner relatable to what parents and guardians at some point use to ‘trick us’ into eating our vegetables through telling us green beans turn us into giants.

Intention seems to be a recurring constant in that nothing exists without it, and whether our intention is to attain a better quality of life: contribute our services to humanity, concentrate our will in the direction of generally making the world a better place, or all/none of the above, it is clear that money can enable us the privilege to make such changes and decisions. To create the change internally allows us to then reflect it upon the world. With this method of refining the nature of our participation within certain systems, we can see more clearly how we can implement such changes on a global scale and eventually alleviate ourselves from the mundane aspects of society that no longer serve us.

Let me be the first here to say that this sums up matters quite nicely. Money really can be a strange energy in our lives at times, and I thank you mat for helping us see its deeper principles.
